Colorado 4x4 Trail Google Earth / Garmin Data

This data has been compiled to include over 300 4x4 trails throughout Colorado. The GE File contains trail name, trailhead location, trail track, difficulty rating, and in some cases a link to the trail information on Dirtopia.com (The Off Road Encyclopedia). Some of the track information came directly from a GPS track, but many of the tracks were determined using satellite imagery and topographical maps. Trails may be closed depending on weather conditions, time of year, and Forest Service regulations.

USE THIS TRAIL INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK! Know your vehicle and abilities before attempting any 4x4 trail. This information is provided as-is with no guarantee of validity or currency! Dirtopia.com, FJC Magazine, & Colorado FJ's accept no responsibility for the use/misuse of this information.

Notes about the data

  • Trail ratings are determined through descriptions from various trip reports and (in some cases) personal experience. All ratings are subjective so make sure your well informed before attempting any trail. The rating system used is the standard system proposed by the Colorado Association of 4WD Clubs, Inc. (http://hightrails.org/rd_rate_co.html). Please note that this system differs slightly from other systems. View a cross reference chart at coloradofjs.com.
  • Trails are broken down by county. Many trails exist in multiple counties, usually the trail is listed beneath the county it begins in.
  • Trails are color coded: Green for Easy(1-4), Blue for Moderate(5-7), Red for Difficult(8-9) and Black/White for Extreme(10).
  • The Colorado Counties Map will show a graphic of the CO Counties with green placemarks to show which counties have trails. It’s a great overview and is less cluttered than loading all the trails at once.
  • Please Note that the rating of a trail can and will change based on a variety of factors. Rain, snow, mud and other weather events can dramatically change the difficulty of a trail. A trail resource (such as a book or website) may not reflect the current condition of a trail. Please evaluate each trail and obstacle before attempting anything you’re not comfortable with.

  • | CO 4x4 Trails POI (.gpi)

Garmin Map File (.img) (Coming Soon)

  • This is a Garmin map file that can be added to other map files in your GPS. This file does not contain the trailhead waypoints, only the track itself. Use the POI file for trail waypoint information.

GPS XML File (.gpx)

  • This file is a standard GPX file that most modern GPS systems can use. Use this file to import the data directly into your GPS.
