The Willow Creek Trail offers a nice combination of an easy graded trail and a rougher OHV one. Depending on what you prefer, you can choose the main graded route that crosses with a well known OHV trail in San Bernardino National Forest. Or, you can drive through other tougher 4WD trails. Take your pick. These trails are clearly marked.
For the more adventurous, the tougher route is harsh with holes and off camber areas. You need good control and excellent suspensions in the 4WD. These areas are graded blue among the OHV trails.
The simpler road offers you a good view of the sections which were burned by the Willow Creek Fire that happened in 1999. Typical of a burned forest area, you will still find blackened and lifeless tree stumps.
There are several spots along the trail that offer some interesting activities. The Deep Creek area is a good place for day fishing (see video) Arrowhead OHV. There is the Splinters Cabin based along the hiking trail which also is an accessway to fish for trout by the creek. This wooden cabin may have lost its original timber frame but still offers a good feel. This area is lined with trees and is a nice place for a picnic.
If you move further on you reach the only spot where vehicles are allowed to cross the Deep Creek. For a few miles after this crossing the trail turns difficult. There are boulders and rocks along the way and therefore this section deserves a black rating. Recommended only for 4WDs with strong tires and excellent suspension. You can drive out to the end of the trail where it leaves the San Bernardino National Forest. You can easily reach Cedar Glen which is 3 miles down the road.
